Pamukkale, also known as “cotton castle”, is a city that contains hot springs and travertines, terraces of carbonate minerals left by the flowing water.

What has tourism got to do with the sediments in Pamukkale?

Sedimentaion of white mineral deposits in Pammukale has led to a fascinating phenomenon: a huge number of warm pools formed on stunning white terraces! People have bathed in these pools for thousands of years. Take a look.

The area is a world heritage site and so wearing shoes in the water is prohibited to protect the deposits.

Exciting Cappadocia

Cappadocia is a famous tourist destination, because of its unique geological, historic and cultural features. The region is largely underlain by sedimentary rocks formed in lakes and streams, and ignimbrite deposits erupted from ancient volcanoes approximately 9 to 3 million years ago. The rocks of Cappadocia eroded into hundreds of spectacular pillars and minaret-like forms. The volcanic deposits are soft rocks that the people of the villages at the heart of the Cappadocia Region carved out to form houses, churches and monasteries.

What is so exiting about these rock formations you ask?

Well the rock formations are now used as cave hotels and a hot air balloon ride over the valley of fairy chimneys can be a major romantic get away for you.
